Bowls New Zealand Para–Sport Nominations for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games

Bowls New Zealand CEO Kerry Clark today announced the 2014 Para-Sport Nominations. The nominated players will play Australia in the Trans-Tasman Trophy competition in March, while also being nominated to the New Zealand Olympic Committee for selection to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July.
The nominated players are;
Para Mixed Pairs  David Stallard Director Peter Black
Sue Curren Director Christine Foster

Para Open TriplesLinda Bennett -Lead
Barry Wynks - Second
Mark Noble –Skip

Trials were held in November on specially developed Northern Hemisphere imitated greens at Pakuranga Bowling Club in Auckland. The nominations were made by National Coach, Dave Edwards and Assistant National Coach Peter Belliss. Belliss will coach this team and will be working very closely with the players over the next few months.

First up the players will be part of the Trans-Tasman side that will also comprise the Blackjacks and two age group development sides (Under 18 and Under 25). With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner this competition will have a new level of intensity.

Belliss said that if selected to go on to the games the Para-Sport players will have had the perfect warm up against Australia and therefore a great chance of bringing back a medal from Glasgow. ”We will have had the right preparation both here and in planned lead up games in Scotland prior to the Games. This is a wonderful opportunity for all involved.”
